About Sarah

Sarah Pochin was elected as the Member of Parliament for Runcorn and Helsby in May 2025, following a by-election in the constituency.

Sarah grew up in an Army family, moving between bases across the UK and spending four years living in Germany. Her parents later settled in Gloucestershire to give her a more stable education.

Her mother worked in the local post office before going on to run a post office business of her own. Growing up with two hardworking parents taught Sarah the importance of resilience, adaptability and determination.

Her parents believed strongly in the power of education and the opportunities it could provide. They made considerable sacrifices, including going without family holidays and new cars, to give Sarah the best possible start in life.

Sarah became the first person in her family to attend university, studying Banking and Finance through a sponsored degree scheme. She later secured a place on Shell International’s graduate programme, beginning an international business career that gave her extensive experience in business, marketing and working across different cultures.

In 1996, Sarah married her husband, Jonny, a civil engineer. As a strong believer in family life, she later left Shell to work closer to home in the North West. She subsequently took a career break to raise their children and support Jonny as he built his own business, creating employment for many local families along the way.

Sarah went on to serve as a local councillor and spent 20 years as a magistrate. Through both roles, she saw first-hand the challenges faced by local communities and the difficult circumstances many people encounter in their everyday lives.
